Ideas to Implement from the Just Future Summit

In October, Consultant Erica Harrell attended the Greenlining Institute’s Just Future Summit in Oakland. The two-day summit provided opportunities to listen to and engage with leaders in the social, racial, economic, and environmental justice movements such as Dolores Huerta, Maurice (Moe) Mitchell, and Linda Sarsour. Here are a few takeaways from the conference:

  • We should deepen our capacity for complexity and move through conflict in a way that keeps people in community with one another.

  • To keep joy in our movements, we need to foster more connection with one another, have more patience, and provide more grace when mistakes occur.

  • As we work toward a better future, we should always consider how we can make change that will positively affect our descendants in seven generations (this is an Indigenous principle).
